Flabbergasted

This is what my boss gave me for Christmas.

I couldn't be happier.

It's definitely the fanciest thing I own.

A Very Dewey Christmas 2011

If I had a dollar for every time I said, “I have the world’s cutest kids” I would for sure have enough money to take the whole world out for a cupcake! LOL. Oh no, Don’t get me started on my cupcake obsession! It’s time for you to be updated on the world’s cutest babies, uh hum… I mean, The Deweys!!!

As you can see we have added a new little princess to the bunch, RaVoe and Zelda would love to introduce you to their new baby sister, Siri!

Have I mentioned how cute my kids are yet?

:)

Although I spent a full month locked in my room after Oprah announced her retirement, 2011 has brought us more giggles and laughs than I could even begin to put in one teeny weeny letter. You probably wouldn’t even have enough gigs for it! LOL! So, to save us all some time allow me to list some of our Highlights of the year.

1. Surprising RaVoe with Front row tickets

to see Justin Beiber for her 3rd birthday.

(we were both bawling!)

2. Daddy got his first real Job, and then his 2nd real job! Soooooo many blessings!

3. Getting Devon ALL TO MYSELF when he

stayed home for a month to play NBA Jam.

The lock out really took a toll on him.

4. Losing 10 pounds with the new Carrot Diet!

I absolutely love it, and now ALL the kids are on it!

5. And last but not least, Zelda is finally free after a 6 week grounding for deleting The Royal Wedding off our TiVo.

You know what they say,

“Patience is a virtue but forgiveness isn’t that easy.”

We can only hope that all of you have had at least a portion of the fun and Osama free Year that we did.

We love you all and wish you all

a

Very

Merry

Christmas!!!

Love, The Deweys

Man's True Best Friend

If you don't know who Bert is, you're really missing out. Bert is the best mule in the whole world. I am 99.9 % positive that when we get into heaven Bert will be pulling the chariot carrying the greatest men of our time. Maybe George Washington or Ghandi, or Obama (if that's your thing). Anyway, Bert really is a special mule.

He's special because he's gentle, trustworthy, kind, oh and did i mention... he's a mule! He's that mule you can put anyone on, with the least amount of experience, and they will have the ride of their life. My 4 year old nephew can pull him all around the campsite without getting stepped on. You can put 5 people on his back, and he won't make a fuss. My favorite thing about Bert is that he'll let you wrap your arms around him and give him a squeeze if you feel the need, and I have, many times. How many times have you done that with any other big hairy beast?

One time I took Devon on this camping trip to Nevada (The Valley of Fire) with my dad and a bunch of Cowboys, real ones. Devon hadn't ridden a mule before, or in other words, Devon hadn't ridden before. We put him on Bert and we went on the craziest terrain these eyes have ever seen. Well, Bert treated Devon like a real gent, and Devon survived with flying colors.

Bert is so nice and gentle and sweet that he will even lie down and let you lay on him for a picture, or a nap if you want.

It wasn't until this last camping trip with my dad that I found out how we managed to get a mule as great as Bert. It's quite the story, and one that needs to be shared.
My dad was in the market for a good pair of mules to pull a wagon, as most dads are. He went to a man's house who was selling another mule, my dad saw Bert and noticed he was a young little thing that was being handled by kids a lot. My dad asked the man how much for the mule, the man replied, "He aint for sale, that's my son's mule". My dad offered him a hefty amount of money for the mule and the man said, "I'm sorry sir, he aint for sale."
"Hells Bells" my dad thought, but said he would be back in a week to pick up the other mule. When my father returned the next week the man explained that his son had wrecked his father's truck and his father was so upset he was making the boy sale his mule to pay for it. So my dad offered him a good price and took home 2 wonderful mules, Bert and Ernie.

I am grateful for teenagers who make stupid mistakes and bless the lives of others. I really feel like Bert is a member of our family, and I'm happy my Dad paid the price to bring him into our lives.

Here's a tribute to Bert in pictures.

Say Anything

Have any of you seen the 80's movie "Say Anything"?

It doesn't matter if you have or haven't, I just felt like I needed to say something. Don't get excited, it's nothing prophetic or inspirational. I just finally have time on a Saturday, and I beat Devon in Racquetball today 11 to 3, so I'm feeling pretty good, oh, and it's been a while since I've blogged, and I'm way past due.

I don't think I have loved fall as much as I have this year. I used to get so sad when it would start getting cold, it was such a sad feeling. Similar to the way I used to feel as a child after visiting our cousins from California. I love those cousins and it was always so sad after we had to say goodbye. I remember my stomach would ache and I would be depressed the rest of the day. We only saw each other 1 or 2 times a year, and I would long for those occasions. It was similar to the arrival of spring and knowing summer and all it's awesome (no school) activities would be coming. Such a great feeling. I see the same thing with Devon's nieces and nephews with their cousins in Colorado. It's so cute. Anyway, that's how I used to feel at the end of summer, like it was so sad because I knew it would be so long before I would see summer again. This year I have loved and embraced fall. It has made me so excited for home made hot chocolate, and watching Felicity with Whitney. And the red leaves this year in the mountains were out of control! I love Utah. There's lots of other great things too. Let me explain a few.

First off, check out this adorable video I took of my brother Sam's kids. Holy Hanukkah (i like winter too) they are so cute. Pay attention to Brylee's voice at the end. Makes me laugh so hard. This is just one of Falls many magical moments.

Let me explain another great things about fall. So, my parents are going on an LDS mission to Mozambique. They leave on November 7th and I really don't know how I'm going to handle it. I'm excited for them, and I know they are doing the right thing, but being without my parents for that long is going to be rough. I don't know who's going to give me "the talks" about how wonderful Devon is, and how I need to be nicer to him, or who's going to help me adjust the 72 straps on every one of our saddles. I doubt I'll even be able to ride a mule for the next 18 months. Well, I've wondered how I was going to manage.... seriously. Mostly because I just love my parents, and love going over there to hang out with them or get their advice, or get sweetened condensed milk out of the storage room.
But then I got an email last week, and I realized I'm gonna be just.... fine.

This email was from Devon's brother and it was sent out to the entire Dewey family, planning a special "Ernest Scared Stupid" event. I couldn't be more excited. His younger nieces an nephews have grown up in.... the latter days... the most difficult times, as we have been warned, but sadly they have grown up without Ernest. So we thought we would "show them the light". I love Ernest P. Worrell, and it is no wonder why this movie has 10 stars on IMDB. It is a masterpiece. I had a roommate years ago in Florida, we only lived together for about 2 months and our whole relationship was built upon this movie. We are still friends today (thanks to Facebook). Anyway, I've realized thanks to Fall, cute kids, and 80's movies, that I am so grateful that I am married, and that while my cute and weird parents are going to be gone for 18 months, I have the most radical in laws to hang out with. I'm so glad most of my siblings are close enough to hang out with too. And I'm really glad I have my friend, Hamburger Hair who still thinks married people are cool. Even if she does ride a horse some times.

So here's to Fall and High Fiving Referees.
Maybe I'll blog again some day.

We could all use a sling

I'm not a mom... yet. But from the mom's I know I have seen and heard great things about baby slings. They appear to be a great way to take baby on the go. Well... this Labor Day we were up the canyon and I spotted the most adorable and disturbing baby sling I have ever seen. I had to pretend to be taking a picture of Devon so that I could snap the following photo. A trick I learned from my friend Amanda.

YAY! It's a puppy sling!!! Yep. It's not just for babies.

I'm not really a pet lover, but wow, isn't this sling amazing. You can take puppy with you everywhere. No more annoying leashes... or having to pick up puppy's poo poo. I bet the puppy sling comes with puppy diapers.

I couldn't help it, but the rest of the trip in the canyon I had to snap these pictures too. I just imagined all of these people carrying their dog... or maybe even their cat.

I imagine this lady is holding a pair of young lion cubs.
Wow, the possibilities are endless!

Everyone else is doin it

After a few months of the most lovely break. Devon is going back to school. He's a Junior now (oh, they grow so fast) at BYU and majoring in Broadcast Journalism. He says when he grows up he wants to be a dinosaur. Aren't they so cute. I just wish they would stay this way forever.

I'm now the official sugar mama, working full time. I just got a new job as the program manager for this company. I love the company and really am excited about the new job.

P.S. the only thing missing from this picture is Devon's Scooby Doo Lunch box. It was lost, and he was devastated. Then he found it today next to his bike out on the bike rack. A Tender Mercy.

all mine

Sometimes i complain that Devon doesn't eat food.
But then he brings home things like this from work that customers give him.

And I feel really glad that he doesn't eat food, that i get the coupon all to myself and that I don't have to share with him.
